1. Introduction
vamAI ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we keep it safe when you use our website, the vamAI desktop app and the services behind them (the "Service").
vamAI is an app you run on your own computer. Your conversations, characters, memories and scenes stay on your computer, and the AI services the app uses are ones you choose and pay for directly. Our servers handle sign-in, memberships, licences and downloads, and nothing more.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in on our website with Patreon, Patreon shares with us:
- Your Patreon user ID, display name and the link to your profile picture
- The email address on your Patreon account
- Your membership of our Patreon page: its status, tier, amount and currency, and its start, next charge and cancellation dates
We also record when you first and last signed in, and when your free trial started.
Your Computers
When you sign the vamAI app in on a computer, we store:
- A label for that computer, "vamAI on" followed by the computer's name, which you can rename on your dashboard
- A hashed device ID and salted hashes of hardware identifiers (the Windows machine ID, and the motherboard, processor and disk serial numbers where Windows reports them). We receive only the hashes, never the identifiers themselves.
- When the computer was first and last seen, and when its app sign-in was last used
These let a membership work on a limited number of computers and give each computer one free trial. The app's sign-in is stored only as a hash.
Membership Notices from Patreon
Patreon tells us when a membership of our Patreon page changes, including for members who have not signed up to vamAI. From each notice we keep only the membership and Patreon user IDs, the pledge status, amount, charge dates and tier. We never keep an email address or name from these notices.
Server Logs
Our servers keep technical logs of errors and events, which may include your account's internal ID and your Patreon user ID. We do not log your IP address with your requests; it is used only in memory, to limit how often requests can be made.
What We Do NOT Collect
- Conversation content or AI chat history
- Your characters, their memories, or anything else you create in the app
- Audio from your microphone
- Your VaM scenes, or pictures of them
- Your AI service keys
- Personal files on your computer
- Analytics, advertising or tracking data
3. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide and maintain the Service, and keep you signed in
- Check your membership and issue the signed licence the app verifies
- Limit how many computers use a membership, and give each computer one free trial
- Deliver downloads of the app, the VaM plugin and the optional local services
- Keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems
- Communicate important updates about the Service
- Provide customer support
4. The AI Services You Choose
vamAI does not run AI services for you, and your AI traffic never passes through our servers. The app connects from your computer directly to the AI services you set up (for example Venice, ElevenLabs, Deepgram, Hume, or any OpenAI-compatible service), using your own keys and your own accounts with them. Depending on the features you use, the app sends them:
- What you say or type, what you write for your characters and scenarios, and the replies they write
- Audio from your microphone, to turn your speech into text
- The text she speaks, to make her voice
- Pictures of your VaM scene, for features that describe what she sees
- Pictures and descriptions of the looks, poses and places in your VaM library, when you catalogue or search it
- Descriptions of pictures to make, such as her portrait or a photo she sends you in chat
- Voice samples you choose to upload when you create or clone a voice
Those services handle this data under their own privacy policies and terms, which we recommend you review. Services you run locally, such as the local speech recognition, a local language model or the local lip-sync service, run on your computer and send nothing out.
5. Data Storage and Security
Our servers run on Amazon Web Services in the United States. We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data:
- All data transmission uses TLS encryption, and our database is encrypted at rest
- App sign-ins are stored only as hashes, and hardware identifiers only as salted hashes
- Access to user data is restricted to authorised administrators, who sign in with two-factor authentication
- Regular security audits and updates
On your computer, the app keeps its data inside its own folder. Your AI service keys are stored encrypted with Windows' data protection and are never sent to us.
6. Data Retention
We retain your data as follows:
- Account data: retained until you delete your account. Deleting it removes your account, your membership record, your computers, every app sign-in and the Patreon notices about you, at once.
- Membership notices from Patreon: deleted 30 days after they are processed, or 90 days if one could not be processed
- Server logs: 30 days
- Database backups: 7 days
- Support communications: retained for up to 2 years
After you delete your account, we keep only:
- The hashed identifiers of any computer that started a free trial, so a computer gets one trial only. Nothing links them to you once your account is gone.
- A record that an account was deleted and when, under the account's random internal ID, with no name, email address, Patreon ID or IP address
- Records of administrators' actions that name the same internal ID
Deleting your vamAI account does not cancel your Patreon membership; cancel it on Patreon. The data the app keeps on your computer stays there until you delete it.
7. Third-Party Services
We integrate with the following third-party services:
- Patreon: Sign-in, memberships and payments. We never see your payment details.
- Amazon Web Services: Hosting, our database, and the downloads of the app, the VaM plugin and the local services
- AI services you choose: Used by the app on your computer, under your own accounts (see section 4)
- Discord: Our community and support, if you join
Each third-party service has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent for data processing
You can delete your account yourself at any time, on your dashboard's Account page. To exercise your other rights, please contact us through our Discord or Patreon page.
9. Cookies and Local Storage
Our website uses only essential cookies and browser storage:
- A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in, for up to 7 days
- Two short-lived cookies while you sign in with Patreon, which protect the sign-in and return you to the right page (10 minutes)
- A note in your browser's local storage that you confirmed you are 18 or over
- While you delete your account, the email address you typed to confirm it, kept in your browser's session storage until the deletion finishes
We do not use tracking cookies, advertising, or third-party analytics.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected data from a minor, please contact us immediately.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through our website or Discord. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
